He is well known in the fitness industry as founder of Newborn Fitness – the postnatal exercise specialists, and he co-authored ‘The Essential Exercise & Birthball Handbook’ with his friend and fellow entrepreneur Martin Beckley. He was also instrumental in developing and launching ‘The Miracle Box’ range of fitness products.
Mark has now left the fitness industry and owns a very successful Fun Casino company, and is in the process of starting another enterprise in the offshore Oil & Gas insdustry
Why Alfie Potts™? by Mark Hibbitts
I used to work for other people. In actual fact I spent most of the first twenty years of my working career as a casino employee. It definitely had its benefits – I travelled the world, had a good lifestyle, and I’d worked my way up to being an international casino manager on a great income – But I was still aware that I was working to make someone else rich. That thought bugged me because I’d always dreamed of having my own business and being my own boss.
I wanted to be an entrepreneur.
When I returned to the UK I started working for myself. I sold cars for a while, and then I became a personal trainer. However I soon realised that being self employed has its own set of problems – namely you’re still trading your time for money. When you do that, creating any kind of wealth is always going to be a challenge.
If I was ever going to achieve what I really wanted to achieve, I had to expand. I had to have other people working for me. I needed some leverage.
I had what I thought was a great idea and it started off well, but like so many entrepreneurs, my first attempt at building a big nationwide business failed, and I lost everything.
Although I’d had what I thought at the time were some ‘bad breaks’, looking back it was totally my fault. It was my responsibility. Bad planning, stubbornness, failure to adapt to change, lack of cash flow, denial, not asking for help, there were so many reasons why I lost it all. It was definitely a low point in my life, but rather than seeing it as the end, I decided it was a new beginning and I went on a mission to find out where I’d gone wrong.
I started reading books and articles on business and personal development by people such as Dax Moy. I read daily blogs on prosperity consciousness and wealth creation like the one written by millionaire mentor Randy Gage. I went to seminars, took courses, and attended intensive, life changing events such as Mancroft Internationals ‘Winning Edge‘, and T Harv Ekers ‘Millionaire Mind Intensive‘.
I came to the realisation that there was a whole world of knowledge out there I’d known nothing about. I’d never before been shown the basic principles, disciplines, and mindset required for success, and I don’t just mean financial success, but success in all areas of life.
So I started practicing what I was learning.
Amazingly it started to work! Although it wasn’t easy at first, things started getting back on track. Ideas and opportunities came my way. Contacts came my way. New business came my way. And it was then I thought ‘Why ever don’t they teach this in school? Surely it’d be a lot more use to children than most of the current curriculum. I mean, apart from English and some arithmetic I haven’t used most of the things I learned in school for over 30 years! If I could just find a way of teaching some of the principles I’ve learned to children at an early age, it may stop them from making the mistakes I’d made, and maybe even from going through what I’d gone through’
And that’s when the idea for Alfie Potts™ was born.
You see I believe today’s world is totally different from the world we (the parents) grew up in. The system is broken. There are no more ‘jobs for life’. There will be no money left in the pension pot for the children growing up today.
And if the world is different, education will have to be different. A whole new mindset will be needed. Young people will have to think differently and learn a whole new set of skills if they are going to prosper in tomorrow’s economy, and Alfie Potts™ can help them with that.
